Writing Level 9B - Post Graduation Level (In Conjunction with Level 9 Reading)

Ideas

WR 9.1a: Thesis is well conceived and reflects the student’s ability to understand and analyze literature.

WR 9.1b: Main ideas are well-developed in the body of the paper and include specific and relevant references to the literary work.

Organization

WR 9.2a: Introductory paragraph includes a lead, thesis statement, and clear identification of the main points to be discussed in the paper.

WR 9.2b: Each main point is well-developed in its own paragraph and in the same order as indicated in the introduction.

WR 9.2c: Concluding paragraph restates the thesis, ties all the important points of the essay together, and draws relevant conclusions.

Voice

WR 9.3: Writes consistently using third person point of view and showing strong interest in the subject

Word Choice

WR 9.4: Writer uses formal language displaying a wide vocabulary and knowledge of literary analysis terminology (allegory, allusion, conflict, diction, farce, foreshadowing, irony, mood, parody, sarcasm, symbol, etc.)

Sentence Fluency

WR 9.5: Writer uses a wide variety of sentence patterns and stays primarily in the active voice.

Conventions

WR 9.6a: Writer confidently and correctly follows rules of spelling, grammar, and punctuation

WR 9.6b: Writer correctly and consistently follows MLA or APA style to cite sources

Portfolio

WR 9.7a: Uses the writing process to produce a minimum of four proficient writing samples of literary analysis based on the Level 9 Reading literature choices.

WR 9.7b: Uses knowledge of 6 traits, rubrics, writing checklists and conferencing to self reflect and peer edit.
